AE86 4AG 20Valve with Apexi Power Fc tune

 A customer from Melaka with an AE86 come for a tune.He is using Apexi Power FC which s from AE86 16v but it works on the 4AG20v except that it does not activates VVT.

AE86 + 4AG 20v + Adaptronic e420d Re-tune

 This car have been featured before,the owner did a few extra mod and asking for a re-tune.So to the dyno we went.
 

 

 

I can't believe it! 151.2 WHP this time,153 Nm of torque. The engine is still untouched! The extra mod is a full set of titanium cat back exhaust system and an adjustable cam pulley on exhaust cam. This must be a one healthy engine.

Toyota AE86 4AG 20v + Adaptronic e420d ecu

A customer would like to replace the old 4AG 16v engine in his AE86 with a newer 4AG 20v,but as the 20v is from a front wheel drive Levin/Trueno,when it being fitted to rear wheel drive format,the distributor will hit the firewall,there are 3 solutions to this,which is knocking the firewall for the distributor to clear,make a distributor relocation kit or use a Standalone engine management system to convert the ignition system form distributor to wasted spark or direct fire (individual coils).

A better alternative is the third option which is using a standalone engine management system.R.N.R Autosport have suggested the owner to go for direct fire coil on plug ignition system.In this case the coil used is from Nissan SR20 S15 Silvia.ECU of choice is the Adaptronic e420d.This little ecu is packed of features for its relatively cheap price.

Put the car up on the Dyno Dynamics Chassis Dynamometer

 

The result of the conversion.The engine is totally stock standard except for extractor,coil on plug converision and the custom made trumpets.A good result considering its a RWD car which has a higher transmission losses,not to mention this is tuned on RON 95 petrol.The fuel consumption is greatly decreased,more than 14km/L on highways (as reported by the owner). Ecu running flawlessly everytime,no matter cold or hot start.

Congrats to the owner,a rare classics,AE86 is a gem.This project is will not end here,the owner has a few more plans for his baby.So watch out this blog guys.Thanks.

Allright, the car have been tidy up and have been started, we spend some time to check all things are working fine. This 20 Valve running on DLI (Distributorless Ignition) triggered by the Freedom ECU, using 4AGZE ignitor and Mitsubishi coils. Tuning will be done sometime this week, but the car is pretty drivable now with the current map. Starts first time everytime and very smooth running, however the AFR need to be confirmed and fine tuning is needed to make sure everything runs more smoothly. Some photo below..

Completed wiring

Completed wiring (AE86 body loom + 20 valve 4AG ecu loom),all connector and mounting point follow stock factory location

The wiring have been installed in the car,i uploaded new map into the Freedom ECU and it fires at first crank.Will take some photos and maybe some videos soon. It is not yet tuned as there is a few bits and pieces on the mechanical side to be finished.
